Screen Time and Myopia: The 4-Hour Risk Threshold
25 Feb 2025 • A large-scale systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis involving 335,524 individuals has confirmed an association between digital screen time and myopia risk.
The analysis revealed a dose-dependent relationship, where each additional hour of screen time increased myopia odds by 21% (OR: 1.21). Notably, the risk surged sharply between 1 to 4 hours of daily screen exposure (OR: 1.97 at 4 hours).
These findings highlight the urgent need for screen time guidelines, suggesting a potential safety threshold of less than 1 hour per day to mitigate the growing myopia epidemic.
