31 Mar 2025 • A new study analyzing 1,015 diabetes patients reveals a significant association between elevated serum uric acid (SUA) levels and an increased risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Key Findings:

• Researchers found that patients with vision-threatening DR and advanced CKD had markedly higher SUA levels.
• Each incremental rise in SUA was linked to a greater likelihood of DR and CKD.
• SUA thresholds of 354.0 µmol/L and 361.0 µmol/L were associated with a 1.57-fold and 1.39-fold increased risk of DR and CKD, respectively.
