NMC Informs MBBS Aspirants: Follow FMGL Guidelines Before Enrolling in Foreign Medical Institutions
28 Nov 2024 • The National Medical Commission (NMC) issued an advisory to MBBS aspirants on Wednesday, emphasizing that those seeking to pursue medical education at foreign institutions must ensure compliance with the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiates (FMGL) Regulations, 2021.
The NMC highlighted concerns about Indian students enrolling in private foreign medical colleges that do not adhere to the required curriculum, duration, or clinical training as prescribed by Indian standards.
These discrepancies in education could lead to disqualification for medical practice in India.
The FMGL Regulations set specific requirements regarding the duration of study, language of instruction, syllabus, and internship or clinical training.
The NMC stressed that any deviation from these criteria could prevent students from receiving registration to practice allopathy in India.
Aspiring medical professionals were urged to thoroughly review the regulations before securing admission to avoid facing issues with their future licensure in India.
