Daytime Napping Linked to Higher Risk of Heart Disease and Death in Diabetes
26 Feb 2025 • A large-scale study of 21,129 individuals with type 2 diabetes reveals that frequent daytime napping is associated with a significantly increased risk of major adverse cardiovascular events and mortality.
Over an average follow-up of 11.9 years, those who napped regularly had higher hazard ratios for major adverse cardiovascular events (HR = 1.39), myocardial infarction (HR = 1.44), heart failure (HR = 1.33), stroke (HR = 1.57), and all-cause mortality (HR = 1.28).
The association was especially strong in individuals with longer sleep durations exceeding 10 hours or severe diabetes.
