Epilepsy and Suicide Risk: A Critical Mental Health Concern

27 Feb 2025 • A new study highlights a stark reality, people with epilepsy face significantly higher risks of suicidal ideation, attempts, and completed suicide compared to those without epilepsy.

Researchers found that people with epilepsy had more than twice the risk of suicidal ideation (RR: 2.06) and a nearly fivefold higher incidence rate of suicide attempts (IRR: 4.94). Completed suicide was also markedly elevated (aHR: 2.50).
