India’s Indigenous Surgical Robotic System, SSI Mantra, Executes Two Telesurgeries from 286km Away
11 Jan 2025 • India’s indigenous surgical robotic system, SSI Mantra, has achieved a revolutionary milestone by successfully performing two robotic cardiac surgeries remotely over a distance of 286 kilometers.
This milestone in telemedicine was accomplished by Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations. He operated from Gurugram, and directed the procedures at Manipal Hospital in Jaipur.
The first procedure, a Telerobotic-assisted Internal Mammary Artery Harvesting, was completed in just 58 minutes with ultra-low latency of 35-40 milliseconds. Subsequently the world’s first robotic beating heart totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass (TECAB) was performed and maintained a low latency of 40 milliseconds.
The SSI Mantra 3 Surgical Robotic System is the first globally approved robotic platform for telesurgery and tele-proctoring developed by SS Innovations. It was recently granted regulatory approval by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO)
