A New Diagnostic Edge: Ultrasonic Viscoelastic Imaging Predicts Proliferative Lupus Nephritis

7 Mar 2025 • Analyzing lupus nephritis (LN) patients and healthy controls, researchers found that key viscoelastic parameters—elasticity (Emean), viscosity (Vmean), and dispersion (Dmean)—differed significantly among healthy, proliferative lupus nephritis (PLN), and nonproliferative LN (nPLN) groups.

Notably, Vmean (OR = 89.49), serum creatinine (OR = 110.57), and anti-dsDNA (OR = 1.0) emerged as strong predictors of PLN.

These findings position ultrasonic viscoelastic imaging as a powerful, noninvasive diagnostic tool, offering early and accurate PLN detection, potentially reducing the need for invasive biopsies.
