Asthma Patients More Vulnerable to Osteoarthritis, Study Reveals
12 Feb 2025 • A large-scale study of 448,920 participants over 12.5 years has identified asthma as a significant risk factor for osteoarthritis (OA).
Researchers found that asthma increased OA risk by 32%, with knee (21%), hip (12%), and hand OA (62%) showing notable rises. The association was even stronger in socially isolated individuals.
Asthma surpassed traditional OA risk factors like smoking, alcohol use, and diet, emphasizing the need for an integrated approach that addresses both respiratory and musculoskeletal health.
