High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation Shows Promise in Clinically Isolated Syndrome

11 Mar 2025 • High-dose vitamin D supplementation may help delay disease progression in early multiple sclerosis (MS), according to the D-Lay MS trial. Patients with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) received 100,000 IU of cholecalciferol biweekly for 24 months.

60.3% of patients in the vitamin D group experienced disease activity compared to 74.1% in the placebo group. MRI findings also favored vitamin D, with fewer new lesions (46.2% vs. 59.2%) and contrast-enhancing lesions (18.6% vs. 34%).

While relapse rates did not differ significantly, these findings suggest a potential role for high-dose vitamin D in early MS management.
