Study Reveals Elevated Risk of Breast Cancer in Women Exposed to Secondhand Smoke
2 Jul 2024 • Latest study confirms the link between second-hand smoke (SHS) exposure and breast cancer risk in women who do not smoke.
A meta-analysis was conducted to assess the association. Out of 73 eligible studies, 63 were included in the analysis. The pooled relative risk (RR) for overall SHS exposure was 1.24, indicating a significant increased risk of breast cancer. The risk was higher for SHS exposure at home (RR = 1.17) and in non-specified settings (RR = 1.45). Additionally, the duration, intensity, and pack-years of SHS exposure showed linearly increasing risks.
