UK Boy Receives World's First Epilepsy Device in Skull, Reducing Seizures by 80%

26 Jun 2024 • In a world-first, a 13-year-old school boy from London, England has got a neurostimulator implanted in his skull for his severe epilepsy. This neurostimulator has greatly reduced his daytime seizures by 80%.

The boy has Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and underwent the 8-hour surgery to get the device implanted in October 2023.

He is the first candidate to take part in this CADET (children's adaptive deep brain stimulation for epilepsy) trial. This painless device is wirelessly chargeable through headphones and has improved the boy's quality of life, keeping him more focused, alert, and less severe night-time seizures.
