Stem Cell Therapy Speeds Up Bone Healing in Non-Union Fractures
13 Mar 2025 • Healing rates with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) reached 44% at 3 months, 73% at 6 months, and 91% after 12 months. MSC therapy, with or without scaffolds, was linked to a higher healing rate at 3 and 6 months compared to standard bone graft treatment (OR = 1.69).
Key Findings:
- It also shortened bone union time (SMD: -0.54 months), with MSC/scaffold-treated patients healing faster (5.85 vs. 6.36 months).
- MSC therapy had a lower complication rate (1%) compared to standard care (OR = 0.41).
These findings highlight MSC therapy as a promising adjunct to accelerate fracture healing and improve patient outcomes.
