Affordable Drug Combo to reduce Heart Failure risks!
20 Jan 2023 • In a remarkable advance, a large Indian pharmaceutical company has introduced a generic version of the life-saving medication sacubitril and valsartan, a popular combo for treating heart failure. Heart failure is increasing alarmingly in India; it affects 8–10 million people and has a prevalence of roughly 1%. This drug combination will help to alleviate symptoms related to heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and lower the risk of cardiovascular death or heart failure hospitalisation through the introduction of an innovative and economical therapeutic alternative. Sacubitril and Valsartan (Angiotensin Receptor Neprilysin Inhibitor), these compounds' two therapeutic targets for the treatment of heart failure are the Renin-Angiotensin System (RAS) for valsartan and the Natriuretic Peptide (NP) system for sacubitril. The most recent heart failure therapy guidelines in Europe and the United States recommend the use of sacubitril plus valsartan.
