Isometric exercise optimal for lowering blood pressure

10 Aug 2023 • "A systematic review and meta-analysis of 270 randomized trials involving nearly 16,000 participants revealed that isometric exercise training (IET) is the most effective mode for reducing blood pressure. This study challenges previous recommendations that favored aerobic exercise training (AET). The analysis showed that IET led to the greatest reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, with reductions of 8.24/4 mm Hg. Other exercise modes like AET, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), dynamic resistance training (RT), and combined training (CT) also effectively reduced blood pressure, but IET outperformed them. The ranking of effectiveness for reducing systolic blood pressure based on cumulative ranking curve values was IET, CT, RT, AET, and HIIT. These findings suggest the need for updated exercise guidelines for blood pressure management. Source: Medscape | Read full story
