NMC warns Medical colleges against non-implementation of Biometric System

1 Feb 2023 • The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a warning to medical colleges that have not yet linked their CCTV feed to the command and control centre, established NIC Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS), and implemented Hospital Management Information System (HMIS). On January 25, 2023, the NMC's Information Technology Section issued the warning after seeing that, despite numerous requests and reminders, a number of medical colleges had not properly implemented the Commission's IT initiatives.

NMC Secretary Dr. Sandhya Bhullar had written to the deans of the medical colleges and stated, "The implementation of a biometric attendance system can be a practical and efficient digital solution for tracking faculty, senior residents, and tutor attendance in medical colleges. As a result, NMC plans to adopt the National Informatics Center's (NIC) Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) in all public and private medical institutions." The Apex Medical Commission's Information Technology Section indicated in a notice dated January 25, 2023 that several medical colleges are yet to fully implement the Commission's IT initiatives despite repeated requests and reminders from NMC. In a virtual address to all medical colleges, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare made it clear that all medical institutions must swiftly apply the same policy. In a conference with senior authorities, it was stated further that batches should not be permitted in cases of noncompliance.
