30 Jul 2024 • The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) has issued a drug safety alert for vancomycin, warning of a potential adverse drug reaction (ADR) known as Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) syndrome.

• Vancomycin, used for severe infections like methicillin-resistant staphylococcal infections, brain abscesses, and meningitis, has been linked to severe ADRs such as extensive mucocutaneous rash, fever, lymphadenopathy, hepatitis, and hematologic abnormalities including eosinophilia.

• Healthcare professionals and patients are advised to monitor for these symptoms and report any occurrences to the NCC-PvPI, IPC via the provided reporting forms or helpline.
