Osteoarthrosis is a synovial joint disorder marked by cartilage degeneration and consequent alterations in the neighboring bone. It is most likely not one specific disease, but rather a typical reaction to a number of different metabolic, anatomical, and physiological situations. Osteoarthrosis is complicated by genetic factors. The majority of patients only experience moderate aches or stiffness, while a small percentage may experience severe symptoms in several joints, enough to hinder everyday activities or job. Clinical Manifestations of Osteoarthrosis

Pain in the hip, knee and ankle can often be caused by bowlegs (varus deformity) or knock knees (valgus deformity). In other words, when the legs are not aligned straight at the hips, knees, and ankles, there can be an abnormal force across the knee. Knee deformities tend to be more noticeable when a patient is standing. The common theme that pervades all age groups is that the knee is abnormally loaded which can lead to pain, increasing deformity, instability, and progressive degeneration. Correction of the deformity leads to improved knee mechanics, better walking, less pain, and prevents the rapid progression of damage to the knee.
