RCP VTE 2026 - Day 1

This session explores the interventional and surgical dimensions of catheter-related thrombosis, a clinically significant yet often underrecognized complication. The session covers pathophysiology, diagnostic approach, and evidence-informed management strategies, offering perspectives on when to intervene surgically versus medically in patients with catheter-associated deep vein thrombosis.

Implementation of National VTE Preventive Strategies

An interactive panel discussion on personalizing VTE management in challenging patient populations. Led by Dr. Velu Nair, the session tackles clinical grey zones, including obesity, active bleeding risk, stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation (SPAF), renal failure, and VTE in young adults, providing nuanced, individualized approaches grounded in current evidence and real-world practice.

From Guidelines to Ground Reality: Personalizing VTE Management in the Grey Zone Population

Day 2 of the Review of Current Practices (RCP) on venous thromboembolism (VTE) builds on foundational concepts with a sharper focus on high-risk scenarios and evolving treatment paradigms. Chaired by Lt Gen (Dr.) Velu Nair (Retd.), the day features 4 expert-led sessions designed to refine clinical decision-making.

The evening begins with a recap of key Day 1 insights, followed by a keynote by Dr. Velu Nair on cancer-associated thrombosis, addressing treatment complexities in high-risk patients. Then presents emerging evidence in anticoagulation, with insights from the COBRRA trial and its clinical implications.

Subsequent sessions include rationalizing the use of DOACs, LMWH, and oral anticoagulants, and a discussion on selecting between interventional and medical management strategies in VTE.
