HPV Vaccination Demonstrates Efficacy in Alleviating Actinic Keratosis Lesions
7 Mar 2025 • The VAXAK trail explored the potential of HPV vaccination to alleviate the burden of actinic keratosis (AK) in immunocompetent patients with numerous lesions.
Over 12 months, those receiving the 9-valent alphapapillomavirus vaccine showed a significant reduction in AK lesions, with a 58% reduction compared to 47% in the sham group. The vaccine also led to fewer thick lesions and a lower total AK count.
However, it did not significantly impact new AK formation or keratinocyte carcinomas (KCs) during the trial. These findings suggest that HPV vaccination may offer an effective approach to managing AK in at-risk populations.
