Fetal Growth Restriction and Abnormal Heart Rate Amplify Risks in RFM Pregnancies
19 Mar 2025 • In singleton pregnancies with reduced fetal movement (RFM) between 28 to 41 weeks, adverse pregnancy outcomes (APO) occurred in 7.7%, with fetal growth restriction (4.6%) being most common.
A meta-analysis identified abnormal fetal heart rate (aOR: 3.65), cigarette smoking (aOR: 2.96), and maternal medical history (aOR: 2.35) were strongly associated with elevated risk. Lower estimated fetal weight centile also correlated with adverse outcomes, emphasizing the need for close monitoring in RFM cases.
