MRI Reveals Prognostic Clues in Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss
21 Apr 2025 • In a study involving patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)-detected inner ear hemorrhage emerged as a key prognostic marker for more severe symptoms and poorer outcomes.
Patients with hemorrhagic signs on MRI experienced significantly worse initial hearing loss, diminished post-treatment recovery, particularly at speech-critical frequencies (0.5, 1, 2 kHz), and more pronounced dizziness than their non-hemorrhagic counterparts.
The non-hemorrhage group demonstrated both better auditory recovery and fewer vestibular complaints.
