Study Confirms Safety of COVID-19 Vaccination for Pregnant Women in India, With Fewer NICU Admissions
15 Nov 2024 • A recent study conducted in Chandigarh, India, evaluated feto-maternal outcomes among 430 pregnant women who received the COVID-19 vaccine during 2021-2022.
Of these, 295 women (68.6%) were vaccinated, with most receiving the vaccine in the second trimester.
The study found that neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admissions were significantly lower among vaccinated women, though other feto-maternal outcomes like abortions, live birth rates, delivery types, and birth weight were similar between vaccinated and unvaccinated groups.
These findings suggest that COVID-19 vaccination in pregnant women in India appears safe, with no adverse effects on key pregnancy outcomes, and may contribute to improved neonatal outcomes.
The study supports the safety of vaccination during pregnancy, particularly in reducing the need for NICU care.
