Women with Rheumatoid Arthritis at Higher Risk for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
25 Apr 2025 • Women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are more likely to experience premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
A study found that the prevalence of PMDD was 24% in women with RA, nearly four times higher than the 6% observed in healthy controls. Moreover, functional impairment due to PMDD was notably greater in RA group, with 28.4% affected compared to 7.5% in the control group.
These findings highlight the increased burden of premenstrual symptoms in women with RA, suggesting a need for more focused management of PMDD in this population.
