Lifestyle Modification Delivers High Prediabetes Remission in Women with Isolated IFG
15 Jan 2026 • A trial conducted in Kerala showed that a structured lifestyle modification program led to prediabetes remission in 46% of women with isolated impaired fasting glucose (i-FPG), compared with just 6% under standard care.
After 12 months, women in the intervention arm were seven times more likely to revert to normoglycemia (RR 7.04), with a low number needed to treat of 2.8. The intervention lowered fasting plasma glucose by 5.2 mg/dL, reduced HbA1c by 0.09%, and cut body weight by 3.7 kg, while also reducing waist circumference (–1.4 cm) and fat mass (–2.9 kg), with a modest increase in fat-free mass (+0.86 kg).
The findings reinforce lifestyle modification as a highly effective first-line strategy for early dysglycemia, particularly in women identified at the impaired fasting glucose stage.
