Elevated Thyroid Resistance Markers Associate with Diabetic Nephropathy in Euthyroid Type 2 DM
25 Apr 2025 • Using novel indices, including the thyroid feedback quantile index (PTFQI) and thyroid-stimulating hormone index (TSHI), researchers found that patients with diabetic nephropathy (DN) had higher levels of these markers.
Logistic regression showed that elevated PTFQI (OR=1.518) and TFQI (OR=1.546) significantly increased DN risk.
Higher thyroid resistance markers also correlated with worsening kidney function, suggesting thyroid hormone sensitivity could be a valuable biomarker for early kidney damage in T2DM, even in those with normal thyroid function.
