Endometriosis Tied to 7-Fold Rise in Surgical Menopause, Study Warns
7 May 2025 • A major study of nearly 280,000 women found that endometriosis is linked to a 7.5-fold higher risk of surgical menopause (HR: 7.54) and a reduced chance of natural menopause (HR: 0.40).
Women with endometriosis also faced double the risk of premature surgical menopause before age 40 (OR: 2.11) and a 36% higher risk of spontaneous premature ovarian insufficiency (OR: 1.36).
The findings highlight the need for early, personalized interventions to prevent the long-term effects of early estrogen loss.
