Subnuclear Phacoemulsification Reduces Corneal Injury and Improves Vision in Hard Cataracts
20 Mar 2025 • A recent trial suggests that subnuclear phacoemulsification (SNP) is a more effective and safer approach than conventional phacoemulsification (CP) in reducing corneal injury during nuclear cataract surgery.
Patients who underwent SNP showed improved post-operative visual acuity and thinner central corneas at the one-month follow-up, along with higher endothelial cell density at 1- and 3-month follow-ups.
With its potential to minimise corneal injury and enhance recovery, SNP could be a promising alternative for patients with hard cataracts.
