Cardiovascular Risk in People with HIV on Statins: Role of Traditional and HIV-Specific Factors
29 Apr 2025 • In an analysis involving 7,769 people with HIV (PWH), with traditional risk factors, such as smoking (HR: 2.27), hypertension (HR: 1.77), lower HDL cholesterol (HR: 1.21), and uncontrolled HIV-1 RNA (HR: 1.40), faced significantly higher MACE risks.
Black individuals in high-income countries (HR: 1.65) and those with a family history of premature CVD (HR: 1.53) were also disproportionately affected.
The findings underscore the urgent need to address modifiable cardiovascular risks among PWH, even in the era of effective antiretroviral and statin therapies.
