Fasting Glucose-to-HDL Ratio Emerges as Strong Indicator for Fatty Liver Risk

11 Apr 2025 • A large-scale retrospective study involving over 14,000 individuals has spotlighted the fasting plasma glucose to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (FHR) as a potent new marker for identifying non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Researchers found a strong, nonlinear association between rising FHR levels and increased NAFLD prevalence, with risk notably escalating when FHR exceeded 3.

Compared to those in the lowest FHR quartile, participants in the highest quartile had more than twice the odds of having NAFLD (OR: 2.34).
