Gastric Bypass Outperforms Sleeve Gastrectomy in Long-Term Diabetes Remission
2 Apr 2025 • Among the study participants, 50% of those who underwent gastric bypass achieved diabetes remission (HbA1c ≤6.0%) compared to just 20% in the sleeve gastrectomy group.
Gastric bypass also led to greater weight loss (22.2% vs. 17.2%) and lower LDL cholesterol levels. It came with a higher risk of symptomatic postprandial hypoglycemia (28% vs. 2%), while sleeve gastrectomy was associated with more pathological acid reflux (51% higher risk).
These findings provide critical insights for tailoring bariatric surgery choices in diabetes management.
