Coexisting Endometriosis and Preeclampsia Drive Sharp Rise in Complications
7 Jan 2026 • Women with endometriosis faced markedly higher risks of preeclampsia and adverse delivery outcomes, with risks rising sharply when both conditions coexisted, new data showed.
Key Findings:
- An analysis of more than 9 million pregnancies found that endometriosis alone was associated with a 55% higher odds of preeclampsia (aOR 1.55).
- Delivery outcomes worsened further. Endometriosis increased the risk of preterm birth by 55% (aOR 1.56), while preeclampsia alone raised the risk more than fourfold (aOR 4.08).
- When both conditions were present, the odds of preterm delivery climbed nearly sixfold (aOR 5.76).
- Women with endometriosis had over sixfold higher odds of cesarean birth (aOR 6.13), compared with a twofold increase among those with preeclampsia alone (aOR 2.45).
- Coexistence of both conditions drove the risk to more than twelvefold (aOR 12.55).
The findings point to endometriosis as a high-risk obstetric condition and support closer surveillance for hypertensive disorders and delivery complications in affected pregnancies.
