Premature Menopause, Pregnancy Complications, and Hormonal Therapies Drive Cardiometabolic Risk in Women
27 Mar 2025 • A large-scale study of 150,413 women has revealed that female-specific factors—such as premature menopause, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and hormonal therapies—significantly influence the risk of cardiometabolic disease (CMD).
Over a median follow-up of 13.7 years, researchers documented 16,636 CMD events, finding that each one-point increase in a weighted Female-Specific Risk Score (FSRS) was linked to a 24% higher CMD risk.
Women with both high female-specific and genetic risks had a staggering 243% increased CMD risk.
