Silent Threat: One in Three Diabetics May Have Hidden Heart Ischemia
17 Apr 2025 • A study reveals a high prevalence of silent myocardial ischemia (SMI) in diabetic adults, affecting 37.7% of patients aged 40 and above with diabetes duration exceeding five years.
SMI was strongly linked to modifiable risk factors, including smoking (OR: 2.67), poor glycemic control (OR: 3.21), dyslipidemia (OR: 2.15), hypertension (OR: 1.89), and longer diabetes duration (OR: 2.34).
Advancing age, especially beyond 55, further amplified risk (OR per year: 1.05). The findings call for urgent integration of non-invasive cardiac screening tools.
