Biologic Therapy: A Game Changer for Heart Health in Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis
28 Mar 2025 • A large retrospective study analyzing 183,212 patients with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis (PsA) suggests that biologic therapy may significantly reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), particularly in high-risk individuals.
Researchers found that biologics were associated with a 55% lower risk of new-onset MACE (HR: 0.454) and a 66% lower risk of recurrent MACE (HR: 0.343) compared to phototherapy.
While nonbiologic systemic therapy also showed benefits in patients with prior MACE (HR: 0.789), biologics emerged as the most protective option.
