Study Reveals Thyroid Function’s Impact on Nodule Risk in Female T2D Patients
28 Feb 2025 • A study investigating thyroid nodules (TNs) in euthyroid type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients found high prevalence of TNs at 51.9%, with females showing a higher rate.
The research revealed that free triiodothyronine (FT3) and thyroid-stimulating hormone index (TSHI) were independently associated with TNs in females, highlighting a sex-based difference. In contrast, no thyroid hormone-related factors were linked to TNs in males.
These findings emphasize the importance of monitoring thyroid hormone levels, especially in female T2D patients, to aid in early TN detection and management.
