Meds in 10 Minutes? Rajya Sabha MP Warns Quick Commerce Deliveries Could Skip Critical Safety Checks

6 Dec 2024 • Dr. Kanimozhi N.V.N. Somu, DMK Rajya Sabha MP, has called for an immediate government crackdown on ultra-fast medicine delivery services, warning of severe risks to public health and safety.

Referring to a leading food delivery company’s 10-minute medicine delivery model, she described it as a “dangerous model” that could bypass critical regulatory safeguards such as prescription verification and patient identification, both essential for safe and lawful medication distribution.

  • The All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) has raised concerns that the model could lead to the distribution of counterfeit or expired medicines, putting patients at risk.
  • AIOCD has also questioned the e-pharmacy company’s regulatory scrutiny history, which raises additional questions regarding the safety and legality of this technique, Dr. Kanimozhi stressed.

Dr. Kanimozhi termed the quick commerce model an “imminent danger” to public health and urged the Union government to intervene immediately. She emphasized that patient safety must take precedence over delivery speed, advocating for stricter regulatory oversight in these matters.
