ABO Blood Group Patterns Linked to Autoimmune Liver Disease
5 Dec 2025 • New data indicated distinct ABO patterns in autoimmune liver disease.
In a cohort of 114 affected patients versus more than 1,100 controls, type A was more prevalent and raised risk by 78% (OR 1.78), while type B reduced risk by 36% (OR 0.64). In primary biliary cholangitis, type A more than doubled the odds (OR 2.66), and type B further lowered susceptibility (OR 0.51).
Findings support a genetic-immunologic association between ABO blood group and liver-targeted autoimmunity.
