Trimester-Specific SLD Patterns Predict Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes
12 Dec 2025 • Persistent steatotic liver disease (SLD) in pregnancy was strongly associated with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes.
SLD present in both the first and third trimesters increased overall complication risk (OR 1.73), including pregnancy-associated hypertension (OR 1.74), large-for-gestational-age births (OR 1.76), cesarean delivery (OR 1.82), and preterm birth (OR 2.55). Early-pregnancy SLD was linked to higher cesarean rates (OR 1.74), while third-trimester SLD showed a strong association with postpartum hemorrhage (OR 2.15) and a borderline association with pregnancy-associated hypertension (OR 2.02).
The results highlight the importance of trimester-specific liver assessment to identify higher-risk pregnancies and inform targeted management.
