Steatotic Liver Disease Predicts Cardiovascular Risk in T1DM
19 Dec 2025 • New data pinpointed metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) as an independent predictor of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).
A study following 12,205 participants revealed that the presence of SLD substantially increased the likelihood of myocardial infarction, heart failure, and stroke. Patients with MASLD faced a 43% higher risk of cardiovascular complications (aHR 1.43) versus those without liver involvement. Patients with metabolic alcohol-associated liver disease and alcohol-associated liver disease with metabolic dysfunction showed increased risks of 32% and 41%, respectively (HR 1.32 and 1.41).
These results emphasize the need for proactive liver screening in T1DM management to prevent major cardiovascular complications.
