About this session
Antibiotics are among the most frequently prescribed medications, yet inappropriate use continues to fuel antimicrobial resistance, adverse drug reactions, and rising healthcare costs. Practicing antibiotic stewardship is no longer just the responsibility of infectious disease specialists—it is a core competency for every clinician.
This session will provide a practical approach to antibiotic stewardship in both outpatient and inpatient settings. The discussion will focus on choosing the right antibiotic, knowing when antibiotics are unnecessary, optimizing dose and duration, interpreting microbiology reports, and timely de-escalation of therapy. Through common clinical scenarios, participants will learn how to prescribe antibiotics more judiciously while improving patient outcomes and combating antimicrobial resistance.
