Chest X-ray Clues for Early Detection of Drug-Resistant TB in Children
12 Mar 2025 • Chest X-ray (CXR) patterns could help pediatricians identify drug-resistant tuberculosis (DRTB) earlier, potentially expediting treatment.
Among 62 microbiologically confirmed drug-resistant tuberculosis cases, these patterns emerged as strong indicators, with cavity lesions (OR = 2.62) and consolidation (OR = 2.29) being the most predictive.
The study underscores the importance of recognizing these radiographic markers in presumptive or probable cases, allowing clinicians to initiate treatment while awaiting microbiological confirmation.
