Early Menarche Linked to Higher Type 2 Diabetes Risk in Young and Middle-Aged Women
6 Dec 2023 • Earlier age at menarche was associated with type 2 diabetes among young and middle-aged women and with stroke complications among these women living with diabetes.
A recent study of 17,377 US women has revealed a concerning link between the early onset of menarche and an increased risk of T2DM.
- The findings highlighted a notable trend toward diabetes with younger menarche compared to the median age at menarche of 13 years.
- Among women with diabetes, early menarche, particularly ≤10 years, showed a significant association with heightened stroke risk and associated complications.
These insights emphasize the need for targeted interventions and heightened awareness in managing diabetes and associated cardiovascular risks among young and middle-aged women.
