Study Reveals Increased Bleeding Risk with Concomitant Use of SSRIs and Oral Anticoagulants in Patients with AF
23 Mar 2024 • Recent findings suggest that among patients with atrial fibrillation, concomitant use of SSRIs and OACs may be a risk factor for bleeding and should be closely monitored, particularly within the initial months of treatment.
Concomitant SSRI and OAC use was associated with a 33% increased risk of major bleeding compared with OAC use alone; this risk was highest in the first few months of concomitant use and was substantially lower after 6 months.
Patients taking both drugs should be closely monitored, researchers advised.
