Weight Issues in Both Partners Can Delay Conception and Lead to Miscarriages
20 Sept 2024 • In new research, BMI outside of the normal category in both women and men during the preconception or early-pregnancy periods was associated with time to pregnancy and miscarriage.
Findings indicate that both overweight and obesity in women are linked to decreased fecundability and higher miscarriage rates, while men with obesity also face increased risks of subfertility. Specifically, women with a BMI outside the normal range face greater odds of subfertility and miscarriage.
Optimizing BMI for both partners during the preconception period is essential to enhance fertility outcomes and mitigate the risk of miscarriage.
