25 Aug 2023 • The National Medical Commission (NMC) had recently issued guidelines regarding the professional conduct of doctors, including prescribing generic medicines, avoiding endorsements of products, and not organizing medical conferences sponsored by pharmaceutical companies. These guidelines were met with debates and discussions. However, following a representation from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the government has decided to suspend the implementation of these guidelines. The guidelines have been put on hold with immediate effect, and the professional rules and regulations for doctors will now be guided by a set of guidelines from 2002, which these new rules had superseded.
