Family History Plays a Major Role in Predicting Arthritis and Osteoporosis Risk
20 Aug 2024 • Individuals with a first-degree family history of arthritis, osteoporosis, or carpal tunnel syndrome have significantly higher odds of developing the same condition, found new research.
Adults with a family history of any of these conditions showed up to 7.59 times higher odds of having the same condition, with the strongest associations seen between osteoarthritis (OR 7.59) and systemic lupus erythematosus (OR 6.34).
The research highlights the importance of family medical history in assessing risk.
