4-Month Ofloxacin Regimen for TB Lymphadenitis Proven Non-Inferior to 6-Month Standard
26 Jul 2024 • A study in South India found that a four-month ofloxacin regimen was as effective and safe as the standard six-month thrice-weekly regimen for tuberculosis lymphadenitis.
- The four-month regimen [ofloxacin (O), isoniazid (H), rifampicin (R), pyrazinamide (Z) -2RHZO daily/ 2RHO thrice-weekly] ** achieved a similar TB recurrence-free response rate compared to the six-month thrice-weekly regimen.
- Both regimens showed comparable TB recurrence-free favourable responses in the per-protocol analysis (94.0% vs. 94.5% in the test & control regimens, respectively) & met the non-inferiority criteria.
- Both regimens showed similar safety profiles, though the shorter regimen did involve some treatment modifications for toxicity in a few cases.
