Is Prolonged β-Lactam Infusion Superior to Intermittent Infusion in Managing Sepsis?

21 Feb 2024 • Compared to intermittent infusion, prolonged infusion of β-lactam antibiotics significantly decreases all-cause mortality among patients with sepsis and enhances clinical success without increasing adverse events.

A comprehensive evaluation of the contentious debate on the efficacy of prolonged versus intermittent β-lactam antibiotic infusion in sepsis patients found a significant decrease in all-cause mortality (RR, 0.83) and a noteworthy improvement in clinical success (RR, 1.16) with prolonged infusion compared to intermittent infusion.
