Invasive vs. Conservative Approach in Older NSTEMI Patients: No Significant Difference
8 Nov 2024 • In older NSTEMI patients, an invasive approach involving angiography and revascularization did not show a significant benefit over medical therapy alone in reducing cardiovascular death or nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI).
After a median follow-up of 4.1 years, the rates of cardiovascular death and nonfatal MI were similar between the two groups.
Although the invasive group had a lower rate of nonfatal MI (11.7% vs 15.0%), there was no significant difference in cardiovascular death (15.8% vs 14.2%).
These findings suggest that for older NSTEMI patients, an invasive strategy may not offer a clear advantage over medical management in improving long-term cardiovascular outcomes.
