COVID-19 Raises Long-Term Risk of Autoimmune Disorders, Study Reveals
7 Nov 2024 • A large population study of 6.9 million people found that individuals who had COVID-19 were at a significantly higher risk of developing autoimmune and autoinflammatory connective tissue disorders, particularly if they had severe infections, were unvaccinated, or were infected with the Delta variant.
The study highlighted an increased risk for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, vitiligo, and Crohn's disease.
These findings underscore the importance of long-term monitoring and management for COVID-19 survivors, tailored to factors such as disease severity, vaccination status, and age, to reduce the risk of these disorders.
